Moving in 10 days, boxes have been delivered, but I have yet to pack anything. Time to get moving.
In the meantime, here is a list compiled from Kate and Zach of good eats in my new 'hood-- I have left their descriptions in. Put additions in comments, please!
Bohemian Beer Garden - Blocks away from my new place. Beer. Brats.

Sriphaphai - Best Thai in NYC some say- Woodside
Artopolis bakery (the best Greek pastries. Kicks Omonia's a&&.)
Artopolis bakery (the best Greek pastries. Kicks Omonia's a&&.)
Taverna Kikladas (sp? on Ditmar. Freakin' great Greek.)
Kabob Cafe (on Steinway between the highway and 28th Ave....Egyptian place...earth shatteringly good. Pricier than you expect but still under $30 per person...like...when you are feeling spendy or have visitors to the 'hood. Hookah bar visit afterwards optional.)
Athens cafe on 30th and 32nd street has good espresso.
Freeze Peach on Ditmar and 28th street has great iced teas (try the Lapsong Souchong without sugar. really.)
Il Bambino (on 35th and 31st Ave. - I order from there maybe...once a week minimum. really. best paninis I've ever had. Try the artichoke/goat cheese/onion marmalade and also, the speck one... Salads are off the charts. Green beans with croutons and truffle oil ...omg. affordable. delivery. Awesome espresso drinks. the guy who owns it is inspired. It is also BYOB if you go in and sit.)
Brooklyn Bagels (one on Ditmar and one on Broadway...this is just a decent bagel place...not perfection but decent)
There is also an off the charts Brazilian place over in the 36th Ave area...almost LIC that we haven't been to yet but it is apparently the very best. You have to go to AMMI too, dude.
Thai Angel, on 30th Ave b/w 34th and 35th Sts (I think). Really, really good food, lots of veg options too. Low to mid-level prices.
Euro Delights, corner of Broadway and 32nd. Some nice crepes, cheap, although the ingredients are sometimes canned.
Elias' Corner, west of the Astoria Blvd stop (can't remember exactly where). Haven't been there for a few years, but it used to be a la carte fish at very good prices. Don't know if they deliver. (Kate says this is very close to my apartment.)
Café Bar, Greek light fare, corner of 34th Ave and 36th St. Decor is 70s garage sale kitch, several outdoor tables. Service is spotty, food isn't cheap, drinks are extortionate for that level of quality. Still, I kind of like the place.
Sgapo, Greek, slightly higher end. Not cheap, but it's remained while other comparable places in the area have come and gone. Much better service than standard; once, they spontaneously served complimentary grappa to my party of eight, just because it was a slow night. A couple of outdoor tables as well.
Omonia, used to be mostly Greek pastries, now have a bigger menu. Open 24 hours, just renovated and expanded a couple years ago. Not world-beating, but respectable. Service is usually better than the Astoria average, even though the wait staff (as at Café Bar) are quite clearly hired for their youth/looks.
Sac's, Pizza. Broadway, corner of (I think) 28th. Take out entrance is a little bit west of the main restaurant.
Locale, 34th Ave, corner of 33rd St. Nice little to medium place, slightly upscale, kind of looks like it belongs in the village. Martinis are $8 to $12, which is higher end for Astoria.
Cup, 35th Ave, corner of (I think) 34th. Basically a diner, 50's style decor, open til around 2AM. Fare is far more inventive than standard diner, beer on tap, prices are reasonable. Nice for out of town guests with unpredictable eating habits.
Megna, Indian, 33rd or 34th Street south of 30th Avenue. Decent, if not outstanding, food, prices good.
There's also a new Portugese place on Broadway I want to try, but it'll have to be a time V's busy, as there's virtually nothing she can eat.

Comments
1. Sparrow - right across from biergarten. Amazing brunch. Delicious fries. Good coffee and good mimosas. Also, burgers. YUM!
2. Telly's Taverna - 23rd Ave at about 28th St. I MUCH prefer Telly's to Elias Corner. VERY authentic Greek seafood. Grilled octopus to perfection. You MUST have the "green" salad and get whichever whole fish they recommend. Dips - GOOD. Family style. Usually filled with Greeks.
3. Igloo diner on 31st St between 23rd & Ditmars. The best blueberry pancakes EVAH. French vanilla coffee is so good that in the morning I will walk past the subway and double back just to have that joe for the commute. Great salads. Perfect scrambled eggs and a looooovely garden in back. I love to go there with my book on Saturday morning for a lazy brunch. Delivery
4. Fatty's Cafe - Ditmars & Crescent - great mojitos. Fun atmosphere. Great burgers. Sweet potato fries! Steak frite for $14.
5. Crescent & Vine - next door to Fatty's - GREAT wine bar. Small plates, wine & beer. It was here was introduced to the NZ Sauvignon Blanc. Dreamy & very cool. Last year on my birthday, the owner decorated a banana with stars, wrote "happy birthday" on it and gave it to me as a present.
6. Zorbas - 29th St & 23rd Ave - home of the $7 greek salad with grilled chicken & tzatziki. My favorite place pick dinner up on the way home. Good gyros. Delivery.
7. Bangkok Tasty - neighborhood hole in the wall Thai place. They deliver. Love the beef with chili & basil.
8. Lava Cafe - 23rd Ave & about 26th street. Burgers, salads, fries, unlimited mimosas & bloodies at brunch. Herb fries ROCK. They also deliver.
I totaly agree about Artopolis. It's ART and you can eat it. So good!!
